William P. Weintraub is a member of the law firm of Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman LLP in New York and heads the firm’s Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Group, when his practice focuses on business reorganizations, workouts and bankruptcy, and he routinely represents debtors, creditors’ committees and other significant parties in matters involving diverse industries. Mr. Weintraub is a frequent lecturer for ABI, the Norton Institutes, California CEB, the American Bar Association and other organizations. He has written widely on such varied topics as debtor-in-possession financing, indirect preferences, § 366(c), reorganizing high-tech businesses, cross-default provisions in executory contracts, the assignability of intellectual property licenses in bankruptcy, the fiduciary duties of the board of directors of insolvent companies, the availability of first-day orders, equitable subordination of claims, reclamation and the Supreme Court’s decision in the Travelers case. Mr. Weintraub is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America every year since 1995. He is also a former member of the Executive Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California and the former chair of the Debtor/Creditor Committee of the California State Bar, and he is a former co-chair of ABI’s Business Reorganization Committee. Mr. Weintraub graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York at Albany in 1975 and received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1979.
